Student Family and Faculty Staff Residence - Moving Out

Before you vacate your unit, we require that you notify us in writing of your intention to vacate. The notification period required and the documents that need to be completed are outlined in your Residential Agreement.

Contract Expiration:

Your contract ends at 12:00 noon on the last day of the month. There are no exceptions to this departure time. All items must be removed from your suite and all cleaning must be completed by this time.

Move Out Inspection:

Your unit will be inspected prior to your departure. To help you ensure your unit is left in an acceptable condition, you will receive a cleaning check list approximately three weeks before you leave. A follow up inspection is carried out two weeks later so that any repairs may be scheduled for completion shortly after the new tenant arrives. You will also receive a more detailed cleaning check list with the approximate cost of labour. Charges apply if cleaning is not completed by 12 noon on the last day of the month.

Assessment:

It is departmental policy to document any cleaning that will result in cleaning charges against your damage deposit. This documentation is recorded on digital camera as the unit is inspected after your departure and before any cleaning begins. Early departures may qualify for a final inspection with the Supervisor to ensure adequate cleaning levels have been achieved for the new tenant.

Appeals:

Residents have the option to dispute an assessment, however all appeals must be in writing and directed to the Building Services Manager, Student Housing and Hospitality Services, 2707 Tennis Crescent, Vancouver, B.C. V6T 2C1

Mail Forwarding:

To have your mail forwarded, departing residents must leave a forwarding address with Canada Post. Please note the Department of Student Housing & Hospitality Services does not forward mail, but does request a forwarding address so we are able to mail your deposit refund.

Return of Keys:

Residents are required to return all keys to the Commonsblock Front Desk before departure. An assessment of $92 (per cylinder) is levied for each lock change with additional charges for miscellaneous keys (e.g. mailbox, laundry room, study room). Departing residents are not authorized to pass keys on to incoming residents.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Building Services Office at 604-822-5980.
